This study reports on the principles and practices of Task Based Language
Teaching, reviews a few relevant literature and goes on to report the design of
communicative tasks for developing competence in English at the secondary
level, their try out and analysis. Finally it lists the findings and presents a set of
recommendations for adapting TBLT at the secondary level as well as
undergraduate level.
In the first chapter attempt is made to build a context for the study. In doing this
the TBLT theory and practice is reviewed. The rest of the chapter consists of the
details like statement of the problem, definition of terms, null hypothesis,
objectives of the study, research design, scope of the study and limitations.
Chapter II gives a glimpse on the related literature in print which includes
studies on Task Based Language Teaching.
Chapter III deals with the design and tryout of communicative tasks. It begins
with the rationale of task design and moves on to the description of the tryout.
Chapter IV focuses on the analysis and interpretation of data. The null
hypothesis is evaluated in the light of the findings. Qualitative analysis of the
classroom procedures includes the teacher’s observations and learner’s responses
and external teacher’s reviews.
Chapter V highlights the finding, implications, recommendations and
suggestions for the further research.
