The term “Psychology” comprises of two Greek words, namely, “Psyche & Logos”. The former refers to the soul and the latter means the study of. Thus, the term Psychology literally means study of the soul. Later as the word came to posses’ religious and metaphysical significance, Psychology was referred to as the study of mind. Since the term “mind” was also something abstract, the definitions of psychology underwent various modifications. Now we define today psychology as the science of behaviour and cognitive processes. In other words, psychologists are concerned with obtaining scientific information on everything we feel and do. They examine and observe our behaviour, social, cultural and influential situation of life.
(a) Formation
The soul of the human person enters into the state of fullness in the formative level, formative level here means the person one who undergoes the formation is able to withstand the difficulties, and joy equally. With the right aim set that is to identify Jesus values and his face in and around us. This equal balanced state is considered as the field of formation. So, formation in short, tuning the individual self towards the right direction in order to reach the state of perfection.
(b) Holistic Formation
It mingles our day-to-day life activities with the orientation of ourselves along with Lord’s guidance. The field of Maya and frustration goes away from the person, and he/she enters into the state of perfection. The holistic formation depends upon how we are turned in goodness and how we reflect this goodness to others. How we are outraged from badness in order to gain maturity in the holy life.
(c) Aims of Psychology, Formation and Holistic Approach
The prime aim of psychology is to understand, predict and control behaviour. To understand, we need to find out how and why of the behaviour, exploring the various causes for the particular behaviour. For instance, why a student is not successful in perceiving his skills could be understood by exploring the various causes like poor study habits, lack of concentration, poor memory, and interest in the subject lack of motivation or due to personal or other family problems.
Psychology further aims at solving real life problems. The psychotherapist talking to a worried client, the educational psychologist advising a school-board on a new curriculum, the clinical psychologist supervising group-therapy in a mental hospital, a social-psychologist trying to lessen tensions between management and workers in large industry. All aims at minimizing the intensity of real-life problem.
Regarding formation, the person who undergoes enters into various fields and experiences and tries to know the reality behind the suffering. The formatter may be an instrument but the one who undergoes should really take up his cross and walk towards the field of victory. Continuous stimulation of badness and goodness doesn’t come on the path of formation but when the tribulations come keep in mind the goal you should reach and cross the field of suffering with dedication of hard work and God’s blessing. The inner formation of oneself tunes the identity of the concerned person. When the formation becomes habitual, the nature of the person, whether he or she, throws away the whims & fancies and sticks on to the field with firm concentration and without losing hope further walks in determination to attain the goal.
